What it is
The Spouse / Partner Migrant (M) visa is for the husband, wife or permanent companion (unión marital de hecho) of a Colombian national. It is one of the most common routes for foreigners settling long-term in Colombia.
After holding M visas continuously for the required period (generally about two years on this category), you can typically apply for a Resident (R) visa.
Who qualifies
- A valid marriage certificate, or registered permanent-union document, with a Colombian.
- The Colombian partner's identity document (cédula) and supporting proof of the relationship.
- Evidence the relationship is genuine and ongoing (photos, communications, shared life).
- Proof of economic means to support the household.
- Valid passport and health insurance valid in Colombia.
How long it takes
Validity: Up to 3 years
Processing: About 2–4 weeks after filing. Timelines depend on the Ministry's workload and whether they request additional documents — we monitor your file and respond fast to keep it moving.
Government fees
Government fees: ≈ US$52 study fee (paid when you file), plus an M-visa issuance fee of roughly US$230–350 once approved. These are paid by you directly to the Colombian government and are separate from our service fee.
