What it is
This Migrant (M) visa is for foreigners who will practice a profession, trade or independent activity in Colombia on their own account — as opposed to being employed by a Colombian company (Work visa) or running a registered business (Business Owner visa).
Where the profession is regulated in Colombia, you must hold the corresponding Colombian authorisation to practice.
Who qualifies
- Proof of your professional qualification, apostilled and (where required) validated in Colombia.
- For regulated professions, the Colombian license/authorisation to practice.
- A description of the independent activity and evidence of means of support.
- Valid passport and health insurance valid in Colombia.
How long it takes
Validity: Up to 3 years
Processing: About 2–4 weeks after filing. Timelines depend on the Ministry's workload and whether they request additional documents — we monitor your file and respond fast to keep it moving.
Government fees
Government fees: ≈ US$52 study fee (paid when you file), plus an M-visa issuance fee of roughly US$230–350 once approved. These are paid by you directly to the Colombian government and are separate from our service fee.
