What it is
The Business Owner / Investor (M) visa is for foreigners who invest in or own a company in Colombia. The capital must be brought in legally and registered as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) with Colombia's central bank through an official exchange declaration.
It supports building a real business presence in Colombia and counts toward an eventual Resident (R) visa.
Who qualifies
- Company investment registered as FDI of at least 100× the Colombian minimum wage (2026: COP 175,090,500 — about US$48,600 at ~3,600 COP/US$; the peso figure resets each January).
- Proof the company exists and is legally registered (Cámara de Comercio, RUT, share ownership).
- The official foreign-exchange registration of the invested capital (Banco de la República).
- Valid passport and health insurance valid in Colombia.
How long it takes
Validity: Up to 3 years
Processing: About 3–6 weeks after filing. Timelines depend on the Ministry's workload and whether they request additional documents — we monitor your file and respond fast to keep it moving.
Government fees
Government fees: ≈ US$52 study fee (paid when you file), plus an M-visa issuance fee of roughly US$230–350 once approved. These are paid by you directly to the Colombian government and are separate from our service fee.
